Winter is here. Do your outdoor areas need some TLC?
You can feel the chill in the air and hear the rain on the roof, winter is definitely here and it’s the perfect time for sleep ins, Netflix, red wine and staying indoors right? No! Now is the perfect time to enjoy the kids’ winter sports, go camping, toast marshmallows over campfires and prepare the outdoor areas of your home so they look amazing come Spring.
Winter is a great time to shift the focus to the outdoors, here are some tips that will get your home and outdoor entertaining areas functioning well and looking amazing throughout winter & beyond.
As Aussies, we love entertaining outside and that doesn’t have to stop simply because it’s winter. If your Decorative Concrete alfresco or patio area needs a bit of attention, we recommend a simple pressure clean – even the humble hose should do the trick.
Remove all of the furniture from the area, knock down any cobwebs and give the area a light pressure clean. Remember to give the furniture and cushions a wipe down before putting them back in place.
If the flooring in your entertaining area isn’t a decorative concrete and isn’t withstanding the elements as well as concrete does, now is the perfect time to look at replacing it with either Liquid Limestone, Exposed Aggregate or Honed or Coloured Concrete.
As the weather warms up concreters become busier so by calling now, you avoid any down time and can upgrade your entertaining areas before anyone else thinks to. You’ll be one step ahead of the crowd.
Well I know we like to entertain outdoors, even in winter, but swimming might be taking it a bit too far! However, that doesn’t mean that your pool area has to look like the local duck pond.
Apart from making sure the water is crystal clear it’s a great idea to tidy up any garden areas you have in and around the pool area. Remove weeds and top up the mulch.
When it comes to the paving around the pool if you have a decorative concrete it may need a pressure clean, just like the outdoor entertaining areas by using a pressure cleaner or the garden hose.
If you have pool headers make a quick inspection to make sure that none have come loose from ground movement, if they have you might like to touch base with an installer to make repairs.
You may have brick paving or decking around your pool area. Unfortunately one of the big problems with brick pavers around a pool is that they can start to sink & subside over time. And both decking and brick pavers get quite hot in full sun. We love liquid limestone around pools because it stays cool underfoot, but the stylish look of exposed aggregate is quite popular these days.
Winter is a great time to tidy up or renovate your pool area. You may even like to upgrade the header course around your pool to seamless pool edging instead. Or with the bargains you can pick up in winter on a new pool you might choose to have yours installed before Summer arrives.
Either way the team at Lifestone Paving can help you with sound advice and planning.
A driveway is key to a good first impression of your home & a great driveway will instantly add value to your home. They also cop the most traffic and bad weather of all the outdoor areas around your home. But decorative concrete is hardwearing and designed for exactly these conditions. All your driveway will need to keep it looking fresh is a pressure clean once a year and winter is a brilliant time to do it. If you have any stains on your driveway you could try removing them with some WD-40 before washing off.
If you don’t have a concrete driveway now is the time to call and arrange a quote for the removal of your existing driveway and replacement with something modern and fresh. You may even like to make some design changes to improve the functionality of the drive to include more parking space or turn around areas.
So this year use wintertime to your advantage and get the most out of the outdoor areas of your home. Just think, a little time spent on freshening things up in winter will give you more free time to do the things you love in Spring and Summer.
